A friend from Capitol Hill and a Bug-a-boo

Halloween weekend, one of my good friends, Kathryn came from Washington D.C. to meet Bug.  Kathryn and I went to high school together, but afterwards, she returned to her roots and went back east.  (Sad times, I know.)  We had a fun-filled weekend and Bug got attached to Auntie Kathryn pretty quickly.  The day she left, I cried on the way to the airport, at the airport, and on the way home.  Sometimes you just don't realize how much you miss people until you see them again.  I am so lucky to have such an amazing friend.

Bug and Auntie Kathryn's first official hello was in the bathroom at LAX.  Awesome.

What can I say?  The girl LOVES being changed...even in a public restroom.

Before fighting traffic on the 2 hour car ride home, we stopped to eat and feed Bug.

A visit to Santa Monica

We are getting so good at this Baby Bjorn business.  (I still like the Ergo better, though.  Gotta save up for that one!)

More chatter time during lunch.  Where does this girl get all this talking from?  For someone who doesn't even know words, she sure has A LOT to say!

After getting lost in the parking structure for half an hour or so, we found that taking pics of Bug helped pass the time.

Bath time fun.  (Isn't she ADORABLE?  SERIOUSLY?!?!)

Bug LOVES to chat with Auntie Kathryn!

*VIDEO

Fell asleep on Daddy's lap at the kitchen table while Daddy was talking to Auntie Kathryn.  Sometimes Bug just has to accept that she is not always a part of the conversation.  (Talking in that really high pitch voice  that babies like is EXHAUSTING!)

Ready for church!

Because we now have a child, I felt obligated to take her to a real pumpkin patch.  I failed.  We took her to a sorry excuse of a pumpkin patch, off the freeway exit and made her pose.  We ran in, took the photo and left without buying a single pumpkin.  It looks like we took her to the real deal, though...right? :P  We'll try again next year.  Parental fail.  :P

The next day, we visited Daddy for a Halloween lunch.  Bug is getting so good at being in a restaurant and going out.  No fussing or anything! :)  Peaceful meals are becoming more frequent these days.  SCORE!

For Halloween, our community has what they call a Spooktacular, which is basically a Halloween festival/carnival and the stores in the downtown area hand out candy to the kids.  I have never in my entire life seen so many kids out trick-or-treating and in costumes!  We live in a very quiet and small community.   I didn't even know we had that many people live around here.  I'm excited for the future, where Bug can get dressed and have a safe and friendly Halloween experience.  The plan was to go with Uncle Scott, get Bug in her lady bug costume and carry her around.  Do you think we were able to pull it off?  You're right- we didn't.  :P  Bug was tired from such a long weekend with Auntie Kathryn and although we got her lady bug tights on, we were unable to take her out of the car seat without cries and tears.  New plan- Bug fell asleep in the car seat and we all went to dinner.

Since she was in such a bad mood on Halloween, I was thankful we had tried on the costume the previous day and got a shot of her in it.  SCORE!  Here's our little Bug-a-boo...

Happy belated Halloween, all!

God Bless,
Kat

4, 5, 6, 7 and 8 month Cub (9, 10, 11 too)

Clearly I've missed a few monthly updates of the Cub.  I apologize.  We were busy and life has literally taken us for a whirlwind ride.  To be really honest, I lost a lot of motivation to write these past few months because I've every time I started to write, all I could think to write about was my grandpa, Papang, how much I've missed him, and the endless tears that came out when I thought of him.  Every time I reflected back on the moments with my kids and my family, I seemed to cry, thinking of how much he's missed even in the short 5 months he's been gone.  After months of tears and prayers, I feel like I'm officially starting to feel like I'm healing.  While I know I may not heal completely, I can function without tears flowing from my eyes every moment of silence. Cubby has grown quite a bit (to say the least) since my 3 month update.  Here is the gentle giant's growth in months 4, 5, 6, and 7. This weekend, Cubby turned 8...

A Kinder Grad

Kindergarten can really take a toll on the parents.  (Yes, I meant to say parents.)  I knew we were in for a lot of activities and volunteering, but I did NOT know that it would become a second job to be an involved school parent.  I was told that by volunteering and being involved, it would give your kids (and their classmates) all the benefits.  At a private school (especially a Catholic private school), if there aren’t any volunteers, there aren’t many activities.  So ultimately, I knew I had to participate.  Could I have cut down on the activities I chaired or took part in?  Sure.  Why didn’t I?  [Insert long sigh here.]  Because in the end, I realized that I wasn’t sending my child to a private school because it was better than the public schools in the area.  (We actually have great public schools in our district.)  I was sending my child to a private Catholic school so she could learn about her faith.  The most imp...

9 years later...

This is the story of a dentist-in-waiting-nomad, Angela (a.k.a. my sister, "Ate"-[for those who don't speak Filipino, pronounced "a-teh"]) and a basketball playing of an engineer. Freshman year: boy sees girl and never speaks to her. Senior year: boy befriends girl's sister and gets his chance. A winter formal came along. Boy asked. Girl accepted. Boy meets girl's brothers (eek!), mom, and dad (EEK!). They danced. Girl moves to San Francisco, then San Jose. Boy moves to San Jose. Boy moves back to Valencia. Girl stays in San Jose. This summer, girl will move back to Valencia. Soon, boy and girl will finally be getting married! 9 years later! I have yet to express how excited I am that my sister and Louie are finally getting married. (Not that they needed to tie the knot to officially make Louie a part of our family.) For nine years, Louie has become another big brother to me and an Uncle "Looouuuwweeeee" to my nieces- always willing to d...
