23 month Bug and a lack of fireworks.

Happy 23 months and 3 days to Bug!
New development as of yesterday- she now refers to herself by her middle name, Christy.

For the long weekend, we headed to Arizona for some Conner-Milne-Dressler fun!  You may be wondering why we'd travel to the hottest place in life during the heat wave.  Well, when you're sitting in a pool for more than 5 hours a day, drinking cocktails, and surrounded by laughter, you barely notice the heat. :)  Thank you, Uncle Jason and Auntie Kristin ("Keesteen" to Bug) for being such awesome hosts!

After arriving in Arizona, I took a test shot with the camera and someone snuck in the background.  Cute and creepy all at the same time.

4th of July.  Early start in the pool before everyone else woke up.

These two breakfast buddies.  Buggy teaching Uncle Scott about colors during breakfast.

Uncle Jason the police officer. We may or may not have told Buggy that he would put her in jail if she didn't do what we asked.  :P

Mangoes and chips and salsa- the perfect pool time snack combination.

She even managed to take a nap each day so the adults could keep on swimming without worrying about a little someone in the pool.

Then she woke up and got right back in. :)

After pool hair, otherwise known as her hair.

To honor the firefighters who lost their lives in Arizona recently, Auntie Kristin came up with a brilliant idea to light 19 candles and put 19 flags in front of her house.  Unfortunately, it was short-lived.  The night wind did not agree with us.

We did get one good shot before the candles either turned off or set the bags on fire.  :/

We saw some fireworks from a distance on the 4th, but not many.  Seriously, when the temperature is 95 degrees after midnight, who wants to sit outside and wait?  I'd rather jump back into the pool!

To beat the heat in good ol' AZ, we spent the majority of the day inside.  However, we did make a treck to the outlet mall for an hour and went to lunch!

Another development- whining for no reason.  Wait.  Is this a recent development?

Okay, now this is a recent development- running away from my camera.  Nooo!

Bug's "kids table" at Auntie Kristin's house.  She loved it.

And she finally got her feet to stay up.

Yet another nap...which meant...

...more drinks for Grandma and Mommy.  Even better, more pool time with those drinks!

Obviously Buggy was upset with Uncle Scott.  Not sure why.  Bad mood Bug.

Bug has found a new love for the pool since being at the Milne house.  I'm pretty sure we won't be having many more tantrums over baths and we'll be able to enjoy our pool more often on the weekends.

The last night there, we celebrated Auntie Kristin's birthday with lots of cheesecake!

Devoured by Bug.

On our way home, we stopped to have some lunch and grab some Starbucks for the last leg of our trip.

Other not-so-new and new developments:
1- Mommy and Daddy are still exhausted trying to keep up with this firecracker of a kid.

2- Bug is now full-time in her big kid class, where she's been practicing her thinking skills in the "thinking" chair, otherwise known as the "time out" chair to regular people.  There were a few consecutive days where she was put in that "thinking" chair each day for scratching a little boy.  Poor little boy A.  He's the calmest, nicest kid and never fights back and she had to pick on him?  I'd feel less guilty if the kid attacked her and then she scratched him.  There is no justification for the scratching, but did ya' have to pick on the calmest, quietest little boy A?  ::SIGH::  Good news- no scratching since that week.  Yippee!

One more month until this kiddo turns 2.  WAH!

God Bless,
Kat

4, 5, 6, 7 and 8 month Cub (9, 10, 11 too)

Clearly I've missed a few monthly updates of the Cub.  I apologize.  We were busy and life has literally taken us for a whirlwind ride.  To be really honest, I lost a lot of motivation to write these past few months because I've every time I started to write, all I could think to write about was my grandpa, Papang, how much I've missed him, and the endless tears that came out when I thought of him.  Every time I reflected back on the moments with my kids and my family, I seemed to cry, thinking of how much he's missed even in the short 5 months he's been gone.  After months of tears and prayers, I feel like I'm officially starting to feel like I'm healing.  While I know I may not heal completely, I can function without tears flowing from my eyes every moment of silence. Cubby has grown quite a bit (to say the least) since my 3 month update.  Here is the gentle giant's growth in months 4, 5, 6, and 7. This weekend, Cubby turned 8...

A Kinder Grad

Kindergarten can really take a toll on the parents.  (Yes, I meant to say parents.)  I knew we were in for a lot of activities and volunteering, but I did NOT know that it would become a second job to be an involved school parent.  I was told that by volunteering and being involved, it would give your kids (and their classmates) all the benefits.  At a private school (especially a Catholic private school), if there aren’t any volunteers, there aren’t many activities.  So ultimately, I knew I had to participate.  Could I have cut down on the activities I chaired or took part in?  Sure.  Why didn’t I?  [Insert long sigh here.]  Because in the end, I realized that I wasn’t sending my child to a private school because it was better than the public schools in the area.  (We actually have great public schools in our district.)  I was sending my child to a private Catholic school so she could learn about her faith.  The most imp...

9 years later...

This is the story of a dentist-in-waiting-nomad, Angela (a.k.a. my sister, "Ate"-[for those who don't speak Filipino, pronounced "a-teh"]) and a basketball playing of an engineer. Freshman year: boy sees girl and never speaks to her. Senior year: boy befriends girl's sister and gets his chance. A winter formal came along. Boy asked. Girl accepted. Boy meets girl's brothers (eek!), mom, and dad (EEK!). They danced. Girl moves to San Francisco, then San Jose. Boy moves to San Jose. Boy moves back to Valencia. Girl stays in San Jose. This summer, girl will move back to Valencia. Soon, boy and girl will finally be getting married! 9 years later! I have yet to express how excited I am that my sister and Louie are finally getting married. (Not that they needed to tie the knot to officially make Louie a part of our family.) For nine years, Louie has become another big brother to me and an Uncle "Looouuuwweeeee" to my nieces- always willing to d...
