Sorry for abandoning my blog for awhile, folks. It's been a really rough week or so. We've had some new developments with Bug lately and we've been busy (as always!).
About a week and a half ago, Bug decided out of the blue that she no longer wanted to take a bottle. Since about week 3, Daddy's been feeding Bug a bottle at night and at busy times (for example, my sister's wedding), someone else gave her a bottle if Daddy couldn't. I was not planning on giving her a bottle for awhile since I was still breastfeeding. Well, at about week 8, Bug decided to reject the bottle. Just like that! Wyatt continued to try to give her the bottle at night and she just refused. I assumed it was just for a few nights. Well, it wasn't. Bug knew what she wanted. As she's gotten bigger, she's also gotten a whole lot smarter. There's no fooling her, folks! She knows the difference and she's so stubborn she'll cry it out forever...sometimes long enough to cry herself to sleep and miss an entire feeding and when she did wake up, she would take half the amount she used to take. I called the doctor to make sure this was okay. He reassured me and also let me know that some babies take to the breast and bottle at the same time. However, some babies (BUG!) will hold out for as long as possible because she knows the breast is coming. Then I realized that I'm going back to work soon and she has to know how to take a bottle or she'll starve! She has no choice. So, on Tuesday, I decided I would begin giving her a bottle too. I would officially take her off the breast. Just like that! Well, not "just like that". It was hard...really hard...to see Bug cry it out and to also realize that I wouldn't be breastfeeding anymore. After two "feedings" of tears, cries, and a lost voice (which is still in the processing of coming back), Bug finally took the bottle again. Yaaay! I was so proud of her...and relieved...because every time she only took half an ounce or none at all, I couldn't help, but cry. It had to be done, it was done and now...Mommy can go back to work!
Last night, Wyatt and I went to see his favorite band in concert, the Foo Fighters. Wyatt has been waiting forever to see them live and before Bug was born, I bought him tickets, thinking we'd be prepared to be gone all night. We left her with Mama and Papa and she had her first sleepover there, while we went to the concert. On the way home, Wyatt said, "I feel incomplete." I asked, "Why?" He said, "We're driving home without Ella." My heart sank. (Thanks for the reminder, DAD!) We arrived home and Wyatt realized he gave our house keys to my parents. So, at 1:30a.m., we drove to my parents' house and ended up staying there. (I'm not going to lie...I was kind of relieved he accidentally gave them my keys because I sure did miss Bug! We decided to leave the next morning so that Bug could finish her sleepover with Mama and Papa.)
Bug has been "hanging out" A LOT more lately, laughing and talking. It's been so great watching her recognize faces and voices, but sad to think that she's growing up so quickly. So every day, in the middle of the bottle washing, cleaning, organizing, and cooking, I make an effort to pause for five minutes to just look at her and soak in all this newborn goodness. (I can't even say newborn anymore. Our doctor's office reserves the 8:30a.m. and 1:30p.m. time slot for newborns and when I asked for that time, the nurse kindly informed me that Bug no longer falls into that category. 3, 2, 1...WHHHHHAAAA! Way to make a new mommy cry!)
Every once in awhile, if we're lucky, Bug and I get to spend Thursdays with Ninang Angela and we all run baby errands together. What are Godmothers for!??! Oh yeah...changing diapers. :P
Oh yeah...and playing with a helpless baby. While she was holding Bug, we threw the ends of my sister's hair to see what Bug would look like with hair...just because we can. :P
Not a happy camper, but she can't do anything about it. She's cute with a side ponytail, right? :P
Until later, folks!
God Bless,
Kat
She looks funny with all that extra hair! :)
