Bottle Blessings

If I haven't already said it, thank goodness for bottle feeding.  Now that Bug has been on the bottle, it's allowed for some freedom to roam (you know...leave the house).  Before the bottle, Wyatt and I were so scared to take Bug out, timing everything perfectly- feed her, make sure she's asleep when we put her into the car seat, get to our destination, run in and out, and head back home.  Yup.  It was that quick!  It was incredibly hard to find somewhere sanitary to breastfeed, where I wasn't going to expose myself to the world.  Argh!  Now that Bug is a bit older, we can stick her in the car seat while she's awake and she'll put herself to sleep in the car or just stay awake with no tears or cries in site.  When she's hungry, we whip out the bottle and we don't have to leave.

Two weeks ago, we celebrated Uncle Scott and Daddy's 31st birthday and went to dinner.  I was so proud of Bug.  Not only did she let us have a peaceful dinner, but towards the end, she bottle fed at the table without fussing.  Yaaay!  Why am I so excited that she bottle fed at the dinner table?  Well, because sometimes, Bug has a tendency to relapse into wanting to breastfeed so she gets fussy right before a feeding.  (Yeah, relapse.  She's a breastfeeding addict.)

How much do you love Bug's smile in this picture?!?!  Hahaaha.

Another plus to the bottle is that I can leave Bug with babysitters if I need to.  So, last weekend, Bug stayed over at Ninang and Ninong's house overnight so Mommy and Daddy could go away to celebrate Daddy's birthday.  After Ninang and Ninong picked up Bug and took her home, Wyatt and I headed to Newport Beach.  We had lunch, shopped, checked into the hotel, and had dinner.

Probably should not have let the valet guy take this really bad shot from so far away!

After an hour-long search for a Starbucks that was open passed 8pm (Yes, in some places, Starbucks closes at 8pm!), we headed back to the hotel and Wyatt did not feel good.  We're not sure if it was from the food, but he was up all night with stomach cramps.  The next morning, we checked out early and headed home.  As we were on the freeway, Wyatt began feeling numbness on his face and hands.  So we pulled over in Glendora, to search for the nearest hospital.  Thank goodness for the Foothill Presbyterian Hospital in Glendora because Wyatt was admitted and released in 2 1/2 hours.  We're still waiting on one test result to come back, but the rest turned out okay and the doctor released Wyatt, pain medication prescription in hand.  It might have been food poisoning, but we're still waiting to find out.  Whatever it was, is still affecting Wyatt.  The doctor said he'll just have to wait it out.  He even called in to work yesterday.  This is devastating.  Wyatt was one of those people in school who had perfect attendance and can probably count on one hand how many times he's called in to work.  Sad times.

I could not resist taking a picture of Wyatt in the ER.  After they poked at him with needles, I turned to him and said, "Can I take a picture for my blog?"  I should be ashamed of myself, but I'm not.  I had to document it.  :P  Plus, he said yes with no hesitation.  :)  Obviously he knows my love for documentation.

Last week, Bug had a play date with my cousins' kids, Gavin and Sophia.  They are all so cute together and I can't wait to watch them grow together.

Bug's new favorite song is "Happy Birthday."  I can see that this might pose some potential problems in the future.  I just don't have the heart to tell her yet that every day is not her birthday.

We have another busy few weeks coming up.  My girlfriend, Kathryn is coming in from DC to stay with us.  After that, Mom is coming back into town to help us out while I go back to work and before Wyatt goes on his paternity leave.  I'm just soaking in the last couple of weeks with Bug until I return to work.  I'm going to be soooo sad.  :*(

Til next time!

God Bless,
Kat

  1. Yay for stress free feedings! When I decided to go to only bottles, I felt like a new woman. Glad it was a positive experience for you too. THEN once I was done pumping I was even happier! Your little girl is so cute. :) Love reading up on how she is growing.

4, 5, 6, 7 and 8 month Cub (9, 10, 11 too)

Clearly I've missed a few monthly updates of the Cub.  I apologize.  We were busy and life has literally taken us for a whirlwind ride.  To be really honest, I lost a lot of motivation to write these past few months because I've every time I started to write, all I could think to write about was my grandpa, Papang, how much I've missed him, and the endless tears that came out when I thought of him.  Every time I reflected back on the moments with my kids and my family, I seemed to cry, thinking of how much he's missed even in the short 5 months he's been gone.  After months of tears and prayers, I feel like I'm officially starting to feel like I'm healing.  While I know I may not heal completely, I can function without tears flowing from my eyes every moment of silence. Cubby has grown quite a bit (to say the least) since my 3 month update.  Here is the gentle giant's growth in months 4, 5, 6, and 7. This weekend, Cubby turned 8...

A Kinder Grad

Kindergarten can really take a toll on the parents.  (Yes, I meant to say parents.)  I knew we were in for a lot of activities and volunteering, but I did NOT know that it would become a second job to be an involved school parent.  I was told that by volunteering and being involved, it would give your kids (and their classmates) all the benefits.  At a private school (especially a Catholic private school), if there aren’t any volunteers, there aren’t many activities.  So ultimately, I knew I had to participate.  Could I have cut down on the activities I chaired or took part in?  Sure.  Why didn’t I?  [Insert long sigh here.]  Because in the end, I realized that I wasn’t sending my child to a private school because it was better than the public schools in the area.  (We actually have great public schools in our district.)  I was sending my child to a private Catholic school so she could learn about her faith.  The most imp...

9 years later...

This is the story of a dentist-in-waiting-nomad, Angela (a.k.a. my sister, "Ate"-[for those who don't speak Filipino, pronounced "a-teh"]) and a basketball playing of an engineer. Freshman year: boy sees girl and never speaks to her. Senior year: boy befriends girl's sister and gets his chance. A winter formal came along. Boy asked. Girl accepted. Boy meets girl's brothers (eek!), mom, and dad (EEK!). They danced. Girl moves to San Francisco, then San Jose. Boy moves to San Jose. Boy moves back to Valencia. Girl stays in San Jose. This summer, girl will move back to Valencia. Soon, boy and girl will finally be getting married! 9 years later! I have yet to express how excited I am that my sister and Louie are finally getting married. (Not that they needed to tie the knot to officially make Louie a part of our family.) For nine years, Louie has become another big brother to me and an Uncle "Looouuuwweeeee" to my nieces- always willing to d...
