22 month Bug

Happy 22 months and 6 days to our almost fully potty trained kiddo!
(That's right, almost potty trained...which is why this update is so late.)

We had four straight days of potty training fun the weekend Bug turned 22 months.  We're awful parents.  :P  Now, we've officially transitioned from diapers to panties at home and pull-ups at school.  (I'll explain the pull-ups at school in the next blog.)

Potty training through Instagram

Day 1:  Just Mommy and Bug.  Longest day of my life.  Even Mommy needed some cookie rewards while Bug napped.

Day 2:  Daddy, Mommy, and Bug(and cat).  Mommy got flowers and coffee from Daddy while he went out for "being a good mommy."  He sure knows the key to my heart- STARBUCKS! :)
I'm sure our neighbors appreciated the panty line we had on our balcony. :)

Day 3

Day 4:  Back to Mommy and Buggy only.

After four days of saying, "Buggy, if you need to pee-pee or poo-poo, tell Mommy or Daddy," it felt like we were never going to even get close to panties.  Then, on day 4, I said, "Seriously, Bug...if you need to pee-pee or poo-poo, run to the potty and do it."

Then she did.  WHA?!?!!?  Of course our little Bug would want no help getting to the potty.  She wanted to do it alone.  Story of our lives.  After all the frustration of wondering why she never told us she wanted to go, I get it.  Our little Miss Independent wanted to be just that- independent.  She never ceases to amaze me with her independence and will to learn.  Last night, she even conquered her fear of using the potty to go poo-poo and did it alone while Daddy was getting her bath ready.  No warning.  She just did it.  One thing Mommy and Daddy always do unknowingly is to try and help Bug out (as any parent would).  Unfortunately, we have an adult for a kid and she feels all too capable of doing anything and everything on her own.    Whenever the process (whatever the process is at the moment) is over with, I look back and am regretful of how much I try to make her accept my help when I should know by now how little she wants it (or even needs it sometimes).  Lesson learned (again)- let her try alone and then help her out.

As frustrating and exhausting as it was watching Bug's every move to see whether or not she needed to go potty, I'll say one thing's for sure- Bug's naptime is the best time.  Thanks to day care for instilling a routine of two hour naps. :)

God Bless,
Kat

  1. I have to say that during this whole parenting process thus far, not only are we teaching and helping Bug learn, but she is teaching mommy and daddy some things too. ; )

4, 5, 6, 7 and 8 month Cub (9, 10, 11 too)

Clearly I've missed a few monthly updates of the Cub.  I apologize.  We were busy and life has literally taken us for a whirlwind ride.  To be really honest, I lost a lot of motivation to write these past few months because I've every time I started to write, all I could think to write about was my grandpa, Papang, how much I've missed him, and the endless tears that came out when I thought of him.  Every time I reflected back on the moments with my kids and my family, I seemed to cry, thinking of how much he's missed even in the short 5 months he's been gone.  After months of tears and prayers, I feel like I'm officially starting to feel like I'm healing.  While I know I may not heal completely, I can function without tears flowing from my eyes every moment of silence. Cubby has grown quite a bit (to say the least) since my 3 month update.  Here is the gentle giant's growth in months 4, 5, 6, and 7. This weekend, Cubby turned 8...

"Thank you for being a friend..."

[And now, a short introduction with the theme song to the sitcom, The Golden Girls] "Thank you for being a friend, Traveled down the road and back again. Your heart is true your a pal and a confidant. And if you through a party, Invited everyone you ever knew... You would see the biggest gift would be from me, And the card attached would say thank you for being a friend." This morning, Rue McClanahan, who played Blanche Devereaux on my favorite show, The Golden Girls, passed away. If you know me, you could understand how upset I might be.  (Quote from Blanche:  " There is a fine line between having a good time and being a wanton slut. I know. My toe has been on that line." ) The Golden Girls was, is and will always be my favorite show...EVER. Within the last few years, both Estelle Getty (who played Sophia) and Bea Arthur (who played Dorothy) passed away as well and that in itself was a tragedy; for we all know what an amazing duo they made!    (Quote fro...

What if...

I was on the phone today with my brother, Kyle, and was telling him about my emotionally charged moment in a parking lot as I dropped off the hubs at work after having lunch with him.  As I drove through the aisle of the parking lot, a parked car quickly backed out of it's spot without looking.  My natural instinct, of course, was to stop, rather than move forward.  Thankfully, however, the car quickly stopped itself from hitting the front passenger side of my car, where the hubs was sitting.  I pulled into a spot to calm myself down.  My heart was racing.  Wyatt turned to me and asked, "Are you okay?"  I just could not find the words to respond.  (Strange, I know.)  I was breathing so heavily and I think he realized I was about to freak out and said, "We're fine.  She didn't hit us."  He was right.  The driver had stopped quickly enough and everyone was safe.  However, I still could not get myself to calm down.  3, 2...
