Birthday Bug and Remembering

You might recall in a previous post, we had a birthday play date with all of Bug's little friends to celebrate.  This weekend, we celebrated Bug's birthday (again) with some family and family friends. I put a ton of preparation into both birthday because I figured that if I did it for this one, I'd only have to do it for the milestone birthdays from here on out.  Right?  A mommy can dream.  Anyway, get ready for some photos!

Baby in a dress!  What?  Time for a photo shoot.  (Thanks, Auntie Elizabeth, Uncle Nelson, and baby G for this dress!  Mommy had 3 different outfits planned and they were all tossed out once she saw this beautiful dress!)

So much said with just one look!

Angel face.

*A HUGE thank you to Grandma for coming all the way from Oregon for Bug's big day!*

Ninang and Ninong

Bug is crazy just like Mommy!  (Poor Daddy...)

It's her party.  She can pout if she wants to.  This is her normal look.

Papa and Bug

Bug with Mama and Papa

Totally a great look for both of them.

Yes, play on the ground in that beautiful dress.  :/

Is someone going to tell me she looks nothing like Daddy?!?!?!

Mobility. ::SIGH::

*Thank you to Auntie Sam for making such a cute cake and all the cupcakes!*

We asked everyone to fill out a leaf and share their favorite memory with/of Bug this year.  Every year, we will do some form of this so that Bug has something to look back on when she's older.  The only person to not fill one out- Mommy!  Parental FAIL.  So here goes...

My favorite memory with/or Bug is when she turns to me and motions to let go.  It breaks my heart how quickly she wants and has grown up.  She's been doing it from day one and now that she's actually talking, she can express, "Ma-Ma, buh-bye."  What a heartbreaking moment!  Waaah!  However, it reassures me that one day, no matter how much I want her to need me and rely on me for everything...she won't.  She'll be an independent Bug and that makes me so happy.

Mmm...taco bar!

Baby N's here!

And Baby K!  What a face! To. Die. For.

Baby S and Grandma.

Bella with baby K.

It was a hot day...HOT.

Baby Lo made an appearance...in pink and green, to match the party!

Time for cake!

Unsure about how to do this cake business.

Lo and Daddy

Oh, I get it!  This party is for me!

The Koll siblings (minus one).

*After we did cake, my Uncle Roger, a family friend and my parents' neighbor, had a heart attack.  The ambulance took him to the hospital, but he passed away.  Please keep him, his family and friends in your prayers.  We grew up next door to Uncle Roger and his family and have always considered them to be a part of our own.  I think I might have been halfway through high school when I realized we weren't related by blood.  :/  We are all mourning a loss of a great Dad, grandfather, friend, and husband.

Last night Uncle Roger's daughter said to me, "I'm sorry that it happened on Bug's birthday.  Now it will always be associated with my dad passing."  My only response was that it didn't have to be such a bad thing.

1-  Uncle Roger is in a far better place now than where we are.  It's hard to think about, but he is with our Heavenly Father and isn't that what we're working toward?  One day being able to be with Him?

2-  He was with his closest friends and family (minus his daughter who doesn't live nearby) when he passed.  Who can say that much, that at the end of their lives, they were surrounded by most of the people they loved?  Especially because it happened so suddenly?

3- Although it did happen at Bug's birthday, the consolation is that every year, he will never be forgotten.  Each year we will take some time out to remember Uncle Roger.

His funeral is next week and even though we are all saddened because we lost someone, it should still be a celebration of his life- his family and his friends.

God Bless,
Kat

4, 5, 6, 7 and 8 month Cub (9, 10, 11 too)

Clearly I've missed a few monthly updates of the Cub.  I apologize.  We were busy and life has literally taken us for a whirlwind ride.  To be really honest, I lost a lot of motivation to write these past few months because I've every time I started to write, all I could think to write about was my grandpa, Papang, how much I've missed him, and the endless tears that came out when I thought of him.  Every time I reflected back on the moments with my kids and my family, I seemed to cry, thinking of how much he's missed even in the short 5 months he's been gone.  After months of tears and prayers, I feel like I'm officially starting to feel like I'm healing.  While I know I may not heal completely, I can function without tears flowing from my eyes every moment of silence. Cubby has grown quite a bit (to say the least) since my 3 month update.  Here is the gentle giant's growth in months 4, 5, 6, and 7. This weekend, Cubby turned 8...

"Thank you for being a friend..."

[And now, a short introduction with the theme song to the sitcom, The Golden Girls] "Thank you for being a friend, Traveled down the road and back again. Your heart is true your a pal and a confidant. And if you through a party, Invited everyone you ever knew... You would see the biggest gift would be from me, And the card attached would say thank you for being a friend." This morning, Rue McClanahan, who played Blanche Devereaux on my favorite show, The Golden Girls, passed away. If you know me, you could understand how upset I might be.  (Quote from Blanche:  " There is a fine line between having a good time and being a wanton slut. I know. My toe has been on that line." ) The Golden Girls was, is and will always be my favorite show...EVER. Within the last few years, both Estelle Getty (who played Sophia) and Bea Arthur (who played Dorothy) passed away as well and that in itself was a tragedy; for we all know what an amazing duo they made!    (Quote fro...

What if...

I was on the phone today with my brother, Kyle, and was telling him about my emotionally charged moment in a parking lot as I dropped off the hubs at work after having lunch with him.  As I drove through the aisle of the parking lot, a parked car quickly backed out of it's spot without looking.  My natural instinct, of course, was to stop, rather than move forward.  Thankfully, however, the car quickly stopped itself from hitting the front passenger side of my car, where the hubs was sitting.  I pulled into a spot to calm myself down.  My heart was racing.  Wyatt turned to me and asked, "Are you okay?"  I just could not find the words to respond.  (Strange, I know.)  I was breathing so heavily and I think he realized I was about to freak out and said, "We're fine.  She didn't hit us."  He was right.  The driver had stopped quickly enough and everyone was safe.  However, I still could not get myself to calm down.  3, 2...
