Yesterday I had my third ultrasound. I went to the USC perinatal office, where apparently all the cool people are getting ultrasounds. Apparently the doctors here are obstetricians as well. The only difference is that they have an extra 2 years of school to specialize in detecting any abnormalities in ultrasounds. According to my baby know-it-all book, this was the ultrasound where they test for the risk of Down syndrome. This office strictly does ultrasounds. How do I know this? I asked. I liked loved the doctor (Dr. Lee) so much that I wanted him to be my primary OBGYN. I was shot down to learn that the doctors only deliver at USC County Hospital and that the office does not take their own patients. They only take patient referrals for ultrasounds. UGH!
Anyway, this doctor's office was sooooo USC, full of high-tech ultrasound machines, smelled like flowers, and had a flat screen. Yes, I saw my child on a flat screen.
I felt bad for Dr. Lee. As soon as he got the baby in full sight on the flat screen, when he went to click the button to take a snapshot, this Dressler baby-to-be kicked his/her feet and threw his/her hands up. At first Dr. Lee laughed, but after 25 minutes of blurry photos due to too much movement on the baby's part, I saw his eyebrows start to move in a way that indicated his frustration. The doctor then said to me, "Whoa, we've got a mover and a shaker!"
Here's the photo he got... (and if you look really closely, I think he's got Wyatt's forehead!).
After taking in this stunning photo of Dressler hybrid (because he/she is half Asian and half white- Thank you Elyse for the new nickname!), I proceeded to ask the doctor why he was taking so long. (Yes, I'm impatient.) He responded, "I'm trying to see if I can determine the sex of the baby yet." My response: "WHAT? SO SOON!?" Dr. Lee responded, "Well, sometimes you can tell this early. From what I can kind of see, I think I know what this baby might be." (Eyes wide open, I stare at him with excitement.) He then said, "Wanna know what I think?" I thought about it to myself, thinking I should wait for Wyatt, but then blurted out, "YEAH! DUH!"
So...I'll leave it at that. Since the doctor isn't 100% sure, Wyatt and I have decided to wait until our next appointment with Dr. Lee to make the official announcement. (This will give you a reason to keep coming back to the blog for an update! Yes, we're mean.) :)
God Bless,
Kat
