2 year Bug

Happy 2nd birthday to our talkative, sensitive, creative, caring, bossy little Bug!

Did I mention she's a diva?  :)

2 year stats:
25 lbs. 10 ounces (25-50th percentile)
33.5 inches (25-50th percentile
head: 44 centimeters (75th percentile)

The nurse said Bug experienced a slight growth spurt.  Wow.  This was a growth spurt?  Don't grow too much or anything.  Here she is, in all your 25-50th percentile glory!  Maybe if she would eat something other than yogurt, she would experience a real growth spurt.

Dear Buggy,

Happy 2nd birthday!  You are our greatest blessing and bring more joy to our lives than you will ever know. In 2 years you've managed to turn our world upside down with your never-ending energy and chatter.  Our house is a much more vibrant place to be when you're around.  Everything we have is so colorful!  I sometimes forget we own plates that can break, or even furniture that's not so miniature in size.  You have become Mommy's little helper in every way, but especially in the kitchen!  You love sweeping, putting our colorful dishes in the dishwasher, and putting groceries away.  This is amazing considering it took Mommy over 25 years to learn the same skills.  :P

On your birthday, we took you to see Dr. Nish.  After 6 months of preparing you for this visit through books, medical kit toys, etc., we couldn't have been more proud of how little screaming you did in front of Dr. Nish.  You still managed to whine a bit when he was listening to your lungs and let out a short scream when he gave you your shots, but all in all you were amazing.  You really are a big girl!

After seeing Dr. Nish and receiving confirmation that you still are pretty little, we let you skip school because we are awesome parents like that (Remember this.) and we took you to see your first ever movie- Monsters University.  With the recent development of Good-Da, your imaginary friend, I can't imagine why we thought this would be an acceptable movie to take you to.  However, we lucked out and it was.  You sat through 30 minutes of previews and 1.5 hours of the movie. You were relatively quiet, but still interactive with the characters on screen, ate Cheerios, a banana, nachos, and you didn't scream your head off when the monsters were...well...scary.  The rest of the audience thanks you for that.  You are one awesome kid with focus like we've never seen.

After the morning movie we had pizza in the park while listening to music and you took a long nap in the car and we headed home for a break.  Then we headed off to see your buddy C, and his new baby bro, C2.

Then we went out to dinner with Ninong, Ninang, and Lo.  It must have been a pretty great day because you sat through a Teppan-style meal with no problems!  You even ate miso soup, salad with ginger dressing, fried rice with veggies and chicken. Picky eater?  Not my baby kid!
We love you so much, Buggy! May God bless you always, continue to guide you, and provide you with love only He can give.

Love always,
Daddy and Mommy

God Bless,
Kat

4, 5, 6, 7 and 8 month Cub (9, 10, 11 too)

Clearly I've missed a few monthly updates of the Cub.  I apologize.  We were busy and life has literally taken us for a whirlwind ride.  To be really honest, I lost a lot of motivation to write these past few months because I've every time I started to write, all I could think to write about was my grandpa, Papang, how much I've missed him, and the endless tears that came out when I thought of him.  Every time I reflected back on the moments with my kids and my family, I seemed to cry, thinking of how much he's missed even in the short 5 months he's been gone.  After months of tears and prayers, I feel like I'm officially starting to feel like I'm healing.  While I know I may not heal completely, I can function without tears flowing from my eyes every moment of silence. Cubby has grown quite a bit (to say the least) since my 3 month update.  Here is the gentle giant's growth in months 4, 5, 6, and 7. This weekend, Cubby turned 8...

A Kinder Grad

Kindergarten can really take a toll on the parents.  (Yes, I meant to say parents.)  I knew we were in for a lot of activities and volunteering, but I did NOT know that it would become a second job to be an involved school parent.  I was told that by volunteering and being involved, it would give your kids (and their classmates) all the benefits.  At a private school (especially a Catholic private school), if there aren’t any volunteers, there aren’t many activities.  So ultimately, I knew I had to participate.  Could I have cut down on the activities I chaired or took part in?  Sure.  Why didn’t I?  [Insert long sigh here.]  Because in the end, I realized that I wasn’t sending my child to a private school because it was better than the public schools in the area.  (We actually have great public schools in our district.)  I was sending my child to a private Catholic school so she could learn about her faith.  The most imp...

9 years later...

This is the story of a dentist-in-waiting-nomad, Angela (a.k.a. my sister, "Ate"-[for those who don't speak Filipino, pronounced "a-teh"]) and a basketball playing of an engineer. Freshman year: boy sees girl and never speaks to her. Senior year: boy befriends girl's sister and gets his chance. A winter formal came along. Boy asked. Girl accepted. Boy meets girl's brothers (eek!), mom, and dad (EEK!). They danced. Girl moves to San Francisco, then San Jose. Boy moves to San Jose. Boy moves back to Valencia. Girl stays in San Jose. This summer, girl will move back to Valencia. Soon, boy and girl will finally be getting married! 9 years later! I have yet to express how excited I am that my sister and Louie are finally getting married. (Not that they needed to tie the knot to officially make Louie a part of our family.) For nine years, Louie has become another big brother to me and an Uncle "Looouuuwweeeee" to my nieces- always willing to d...
