Come Back!

This weekend Auntie Kathryn came to visit from D.C.!  I am so, so, so blessed to have such a wonderful friend who I've "grown up" with.  Okay, so maybe not "grown up", but kind of.  We were in high school when we met and we have changed quite a bit since then (as people, not our looks- we look just as young!).  Well, according to Kathryn, I haven't changed much.

Hubs:  "Kathryn, what was Kat like in high school?"
Kathryn:  "Like she is now...really happy and bubbly...except all the time."
Me:  "Now I'm just a more tired version of myself."  TRUTH.
Hubs:  "Really?"  Why is he so shocked?  You mean I'm not happy and bubbly all the time with him?  I don't believe it.

I should tell you that this conversation occured while I was singing Britney Spears songs.  :P  It's good to know I haven't changed.  :)

We did a lot of hanging out while Auntie Kathryn was here.  She got to know a new side of Bug.  The last time she was here, Bug was three months old and we know she's not that baby anymore.  Don't worry.  Bug did not hold back.  She was her normal, outgoing, sweet (sometimes tantrum-prone) self.  I'd like to think that she doesn't care who's around.  She's the same person around everyone. :P  (I'd also like to think that now people won't think I exaggerate my stories about her.  They're all true.  Validation.)  After three days of a hyper and excited Bug that played from 6:30am-10pm, and one huge tantrum later, I hope Auntie Kathryn recovers from her time with Bug and decides to come back!

On Saturday morning we decided to head to Orange County to beat the heat in L.A., but not without a Starbucks run first!  (My addiction started with this girl, after spending countless hours at Java 'N Jazz years ago.)

After getting all the way to Anaheim, we met up with traffic.  Too good to be true.  So, our new plan was to stay in Anaheim and hang out at Downtown Disney.  Turns out we couldn't beat the heat.

Diva.

Hating sunscreen.

Lunch at Tortilla Joe's!  Mmmm...

...and maybe a margarita too.

Someone was amazing at lunch.  No one had to leave the table.  This is almost unheard of since she's become mobile.  Usually someone has to get up and entertain her before she throws herself out of her chair.  (Tangent:  What kind of safety belts are in the high chairs at restaurants anyway?!?!  They suck!)  However, Saturday was a different day.  That day, she sat there the entire time, eating and coloring.  Crayons = awesome.

Then we went shopping at The World of Disney.  WAY bigger than a regular Disney store.  Why Bug loves the bad bear from Toy Story 2, I don't know, but she can't get enough of him.

Stuffed animal lovin' girl's DREAM store.

Ah, someone else pushing the stroller.  I like it!

How much do you love that when the hubs feeds Bug, he always opens his mouth too?  Always.  :)

Leading with her tummy.

Putting the brakes on.

Thinking twice.

Day 2 with Auntie Kathryn = awesome.

After church the next day we went out to brunch.  Bug was awesome.  Again, crayons = awesome.

We even had time to introduce Auntie Kathryn to Lo!

(Someone is finally starting to become jealous of Lo.)

Made her way into the tummy time mat.  So sad she's not a baby anymore.  :/

Later that night, we vegged for dinner.  It was an appetizer kind of night.

Oh, and beer.

Random moment:  Brushing her teeth after a bath.  This session went well. No screaming when we took the toothbrush away.  That's always a hit or miss.
It was a great weekend and I we miss Auntie Kathryn already.  It's so sad to see her leave. COME BACK, AUNTIE KATHRYN!  (Mommy keeps crying.)

God Bless,
Kat

4, 5, 6, 7 and 8 month Cub (9, 10, 11 too)

Clearly I've missed a few monthly updates of the Cub.  I apologize.  We were busy and life has literally taken us for a whirlwind ride.  To be really honest, I lost a lot of motivation to write these past few months because I've every time I started to write, all I could think to write about was my grandpa, Papang, how much I've missed him, and the endless tears that came out when I thought of him.  Every time I reflected back on the moments with my kids and my family, I seemed to cry, thinking of how much he's missed even in the short 5 months he's been gone.  After months of tears and prayers, I feel like I'm officially starting to feel like I'm healing.  While I know I may not heal completely, I can function without tears flowing from my eyes every moment of silence. Cubby has grown quite a bit (to say the least) since my 3 month update.  Here is the gentle giant's growth in months 4, 5, 6, and 7. This weekend, Cubby turned 8...

A Kinder Grad

Kindergarten can really take a toll on the parents.  (Yes, I meant to say parents.)  I knew we were in for a lot of activities and volunteering, but I did NOT know that it would become a second job to be an involved school parent.  I was told that by volunteering and being involved, it would give your kids (and their classmates) all the benefits.  At a private school (especially a Catholic private school), if there aren’t any volunteers, there aren’t many activities.  So ultimately, I knew I had to participate.  Could I have cut down on the activities I chaired or took part in?  Sure.  Why didn’t I?  [Insert long sigh here.]  Because in the end, I realized that I wasn’t sending my child to a private school because it was better than the public schools in the area.  (We actually have great public schools in our district.)  I was sending my child to a private Catholic school so she could learn about her faith.  The most imp...

9 years later...

This is the story of a dentist-in-waiting-nomad, Angela (a.k.a. my sister, "Ate"-[for those who don't speak Filipino, pronounced "a-teh"]) and a basketball playing of an engineer. Freshman year: boy sees girl and never speaks to her. Senior year: boy befriends girl's sister and gets his chance. A winter formal came along. Boy asked. Girl accepted. Boy meets girl's brothers (eek!), mom, and dad (EEK!). They danced. Girl moves to San Francisco, then San Jose. Boy moves to San Jose. Boy moves back to Valencia. Girl stays in San Jose. This summer, girl will move back to Valencia. Soon, boy and girl will finally be getting married! 9 years later! I have yet to express how excited I am that my sister and Louie are finally getting married. (Not that they needed to tie the knot to officially make Louie a part of our family.) For nine years, Louie has become another big brother to me and an Uncle "Looouuuwweeeee" to my nieces- always willing to d...
