The thing about being pregnant that used to make me nervous was the protruding belly button. I realize that some people (even pre-pregnancy) have protruding belly buttons. I for one, have never really given them a second look (or thought)...until I saw my other mommy friends' tummies and how much that button can really come out. So of course when I got pregnant, as superficial as this may sound, that was my very first worry. (It's shameful, but I'll admit it.)
During the first trimester and a half, I had forgotten about this fear until one of my girlfriends who is also expecting hit week 20-something. She briefly mentioned her belly button leaving her. Since she is only a few weeks ahead of me, I waited for the day my belly button would leave me as well. Well, I'm now at week 29 and still nothing. Although my belly button has not begun to protrude (secretly thankful for this), there's still not much room in there. I guess when it starts out as "happy face"---you know...horizontally squished (let's face it, I wasn't born with killer abs), there's not much else it can morph into. My belly button is like a black hole...no end in sight...no end that can pop itself out to say "hello".
So where, oh, where is my protruding belly button? No really, WHERE? NO CLUE. Amongst all the other fears of Mommy-hood, maybe God gave me a slight break and didn't want me to face my fear of the protruding belly button just yet. ("Yet" being the operative word. I've still got 2.5 more months to go, remember?)
I was just telling Daddy-to-be the other day that the odd thing about my being pregnant is that I feel more comfortable in my skin now that I'm pregnant, than ever before. Strange, I know. Perhaps it's because my skin has tightened itself so much from the ever-growing basketball inside of me. That's right...no jiggles and shaking here...all tight belly! :P ...or perhaps it's the excitement and anticipation of becoming a Mommy that makes me appreciate the beauty that comes with carrying this basketball. :) Whatever it is, it sure feels gooood!
Another development this week- waddling even more and moving at the pace of a snail. Am I really this slow these days? SURE AM! I've also begun breathing really heavily...running out of breath for no reason at all. While talking to my sister on the phone, I paused and she said, "Geez, Kathleen, you're breathing loudly." Yes, it's true. I sound like I just ran a marathon and I've done nothing. It makes it hard to talk as much as I normally do and that's pretty frustrating (to me, anyway). ::SIGH::
You might be wondering why I have not mentioned the baby yet...well, that's because she's still twirling around in my tummy at all hours of the night. I think the only real new development for this kid is that the kicks have become more forceful. I'm sure she's loving the daily diet of...get ready for this...pb&j, banana, apple, 2 oranges, salad, crackers/goldfish, dinner, and (sometimes) a waffle for dessert....every single day. I seriously eat this much all day, every day! With all this food going in, it's no wonder Ella's kicking harder all the time!
You might also be wondering where the belly button shots are. Well, there are none. That's just too close for comfort...for everyone. Even better...I've got a new dress on! (Well, I bought it awhile ago, but it didn't fit until now...so still new to me!)
God Bless,
